The Lion of the Sea

Named for a navigator who walked these same shores

In the 15th century Ahmed Bin Majid sailed from Ras Al Khaimah into the Arab world, the China Seas and East Africa — navigator, inventor, poet. Sailors called him the Lion of the Sea.

In 1986, with $200 and an accountant's eye, our founder bought the second hotel ever built in this city and brought that same appetite for adventure back to the coast. Four decades later, the shoreline is still ours.
